The Argentinean government is renting part of the TETRA network to three of the country’s mobile operators to expand coverage, reports Argentine news site, Diario Uno. 

Three operators, Claro, Movistar and Personal, are providing 80 per cent coverage in the mountainous part of the area from Cacheuta to Las Cuevas. The infrastructure is using 16 cells installed in nine towers with the TETRA system.

The agreement comes a year after three large-scale avalanches interrupted the international corridor, where 1,200 trucks and 1,500 vehicles pass daily.
