The 200,000-strong Chinese Air Force has taken delivery of its first trial TETRA handsets in the first step of a nationwide rollout of TETRA technology. The handset has been specifically designed and manufactured by a Chinese government-owned company for supply into the Chinese military. The handset uses Software Radio Technologys (SRTs) core TETRA handset technology reference design solution. The technology license agreement provides the local manufacturer with the core technology, development and production tools, and training to develop and customize its final product, enabling the company to create its own range of handsets tailored to the exact form and function required by its local customers. SRT said it was one of the first companies to recognize the demand in Asia for TETRA and has built multiple long-term relationships with strategically located customers to facilitate local manufacture of TETRA equipment and access to the large, lucrative markets. All manufacturers of TETRA handsets based outside of the European Union countries use SRT technology, the firm said....
