From the British developer Eptheca comes a range of multifunctional, dispatcher units for TETRA and other radio systems. Users include police forces, which find them convenient and cost-effective. “One of the police forces in the UK use it in what they call an events suite”, said Colin Ward, of Eptheca. “They have 30 [operator] positions, and different agencies come in with their radios, and different parts of the police force have their own talk groups set up in their radio. They put it in, and then they are instantly part of the activity.” The basic box provides the ability to operate the radio with headsets, fist mics and foot switches. But numerous modular additions can be provided, many of them developed in response to requests from customers. Among them are mains and vehicle power options, antenna options (including magnetic-mount and glass-mount), a voice recorder function; cable accessories (e.g. for plugging in standard or high-noise headsets) and mounting hardware. “We can supply an interface to any radios”, Mr Ward continued. “We’ve also developed one that can go inside a vehicle very neatly and it allows the driver to operate it as well as two other personnel. So you can have a driver and a co-pilot if you like, but also someone in the back who can communicate.
